Astia film simulation recipes
Soft gradation and honest skin — the portrait slide film.
Astia is Fujifilm's soft-gradation simulation, named after Astia 100F — the slide film built for fashion and portrait work, where transparency-film color had to coexist with flattering skin. The simulation keeps saturation close to Provia's but rolls the tone curve off more gently, so highlights hold longer and contrast never lands harshly on a face.
The result is color that stays vivid where you want it — skies, foliage, fabric — while skin keeps a smooth, slightly pastel rendering with none of Velvia's ruddiness. Shadows lift subtly compared to Provia, giving images an airy quality that suits open shade and backlit portraits especially well.
That balance makes Astia one of the most flexible starting points for gentle color recipes: the community pairs it with lifted shadow tones, weak grain and warm white balance shifts for wedding-adjacent and golden-hour looks that stay soft without going flat.
